![]() After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies and International Relations, an opportunity came up for me to teach English in Japan. It was a chance to live and experience life abroad in a strange new environment. I felt I needed to prove myself and become more independent. In Japan, I taught in Tsukuba city located in Ibaraki Prefecture to adults and children for 18 months. During that time, I realized how much I enjoyed teaching and the rewarding experience it offered me. Teaching helped me express my creativity and increased my confidence greatly. Moreover, the satisfaction came from seeing the improvement in the students' English ability. I decided to return to Canada in December 2000 to further my teaching career. Working in Vancouver has really made a difference! The methods of teaching were different and inspirational; I learned many ways to make teaching and learning English fun. I worked at another language school for over 4 years before joining the team at Winfield College. During that time, I taught ESL and TESOL to students of all levels and ages. I was involved in teaching ESL, curriculum development, coordinating monthly TESOL classes, and training teachers. I started teaching at Winfield in January 2005. I was impressed with Winfield's (and still am!!!) supportive and friendly atmosphere. The TESOL program at Winfield College is by far one of best-structured courses I have taught. I am sure most TESOL learners will feel the same way too! :-) Teaching TESOL and ESL at Winfield has rewarded me with a lot of excellent ideas and insights to further improve my teaching style. I hope it will do the same for you!! Hang on tight and enjoy the ride! |
