Life in Winfield
My best and worst memories in Winfield!
By Karen (Yi-Nien Huang)

I have been here for seven months. I met a lot of people and familiar other countries culture. I’ m so glad to study in Winfield and join a lot of activities. My first time joined school activity was hiking Grouse Mountain. I saw the white board in the kitchen. I just thought climb that’s an easy activity. In Taiwan climbing was an easy case, only walk and chat with my friends as a picnic. Every half-hour we could take a rest and drink some juice. So that’s easy to me. I remembered that’s a Saturday that weather was cozy. We met in front of school. Then went to North Van. When we arrived Grouse Mountain. James and Maria wanted us to find a partner and climb with a partner. My partner was Lily who is another Taiwanese girl. At first we were walking so quickly. We had chatted too loud the past 10 minutes. Then I started to feel tired. Oh! I needed take a rest. But I had seen Maria say they were on the higher place waited for us. Lily and I had to walk quickly. I was remorseful; I should lie down on my bed…. It was too late. Should we continue? We ask again and again? We saw some of classmates say to us to make an extra effort. We couldn’t give up.

Then we found another girl Yuli. She is one of student in Winfield who is a Japanese girl. Her partner disappeared because she couldn’t climb fast. Poor Yuli! So we three had to climb together. Suddenly we couldn’t find anyone. We just followed our own tempo; if someone felt tired we took a few minutes break. Then bad thing happened. It’s raining and become heavy. Lily had brought her orange umbrella. She put up the umbrella. Every climber passed us always laughs. I was shy but Lily didn’t anything was wrong. We still climbed and took a rest. This was first I felt so close the god was going to die. Thank god! We passed three-forth. Some of climber had seen us always say to us keep go on only 10 to 15 minutes we can arrive the top. My goodness! We spent over a half hour. When we arrived the top of mountain. I found a site and couldn’t control my legs that trembled a lot. We wanted to find other classmates and teachers. Where were they? We didn’t know. We felt confused because this first go to Grouse Mt. Later we found way to go back. When we were waiting bus we met another girl. She said they had waited for us for 50 minutes. They thought we gave up so they went home already. On Monday a lot of people ridiculed we three. I felt wronged because we just spent two and half-hours. Not too long. One of my classmate said she had spend almost four hours. James said he wanted to prepare hike activity again and we should go again. That’s my first time hike Grouse Mt. And I think it last time. I don’t want to go hiking anymore. That’s the worst memory in Winfield.

Oct. 31st is Halloween. We had a potluck and party. Everyone had to wear costume about Halloween. I wore a Chinese style coat. I wanted to be a Chinese reanimated corps. I had to put white color cosmetic on all my face and a circle red cheek. When I was putting cosmetic my classmate laughter so loud and they stopped me draw my eyebrows. That’s a long story because my eyebrows are sparse I must draw it every morning, sometimes my classmate can’t find it that it disappear. So I was a less eyebrow ghost. My classmate’s costumes were interesting. Naoki was a sexy woman, Masa was Cha Cha (star war I), Peter’s watermelon face, Katsu was a strange uncle, Rose was a witch, Vivian was a Arab prince, Sue was a Egypt queen, Cynthia was an astronaut, Ayako is an angel, Wakako is a devil and Jannel was a cute girl. They were the best in my mind. Anyway I had a great time although I couldn’t win the starbucks cup and pumpkin, but my classmate Katsu and Peter wanted to give me their pumpkin. I was happy. That’s the best memory in Winfield. But they make a joke about my eyebrow until now.

You are always on my mind.
