James
MacGregor - ESL Teacher & Activity Coordinator
James went to Japan originally to be with his girlfriend. In Japan he
started teaching for fun. It was only after he had to return to Canada
that he decided to make it a career. He has been teaching seriously for
around 4 years now.
What James likes about Vancouver is the fact
that it is a small city, and you can meet people from all around the world
very easily. He also believes it's a little more laid back and relaxed
than other major cities.
He likes the fact that at Winfield the
teachers have the freedom to teach what they believe the students really
need to improve upon. Of course there is a curriculum that is flexible and
designed to maximum the students' time here in Canada. James likes the
fact that the students "total experience" when in Canada is taken into
consideration by the school and its staff.
James has visited Japan,
the United States and Korea. His hobbies are mostly athletic or at least
used to be. He doesn't seem to have a lot of free time to pursue them, but
he does like playing soccer, lacrosse and he played Kendo for 4 years in
college and Japan. Nowadays he spends his weekends with friends relaxing
and barbequing.
He enjoys almost all types of foods. If you can
put it on a barbecue, he will probably eat it. He enjoys most types of
Asian cuisine notably Korean, Thai, Japanese and Malaysian as
well.
The craziest thing he has ever done? If he had to choose only
one it would be drinking a little too much one night with friends in
college and missing the train back to their dormitory. Spending 3 hours in
downtown Toronto looking for a place to sleep without getting arrested.
Finding a couple shady characters down by the harbour to take them over to
Toronto Island where they could spend the night without being picked up by
the police. Being awaken by the sound of his friend's screams as his
friend was being attacked by a crazy giant goose and then noticing that
the benches they had fallen asleep on were right beside the Toronto Island
Police Department. :)
A message from James to everyone who
wants to study English in Canada! “Students should choose their school
carefully. The friends you meet in Vancouver and the experiences you have
at school are going to shape your whole attitude towards your overall
experience in Canada.”
Students comments: "Thank you
James. You are amazing teacher. You always make students happy. I've
studied not only English but also Canadian culture, and particularly how
to get together with Canadian girls.." - Russel Sanguanchaiyakit
(Thailand).
