Homestay

How will I get to my homestay when I arrive in Canada?
If your homestay was arranged by Winfield College, a member of your homestay family will meet you at the airport and bring you to their home.

Can I arrive a few days before the program starts and stay at the homestay?
Yes. After you choose your dates, the Homestay Coordinator will arrange it and confirm it with you.

Can I contact my homestay family before I arrive?
Yes. You will receive a family profile prior to your arrival. We encourage you to contact your family before you come.

Can I change my homestay family once I am there?
If there is a serious problem with the homestay that is nobody's fault (for example allergies, family emergencies, personal safety, illness, etc) then Winfield College will find a new homestay for you. In most cases there will be no extra fees. In other cases, such as personal reasons or personal differences, the school has special policies which the student will have to discuss with the Homestay Coordinator.

What is the homestay cancellation policy?
The first month of homestay fees are due before arriving in Canada. Additional months can be paid directly to the school after your arrival in Canada. There can be no partial refunds. Homestay fees are paid for four weeks and it is not possible to get a refund for one week or a few days. A homestay period is for four weeks. Students wishing to leave must give 14 days notice before the end of their four week stay. Even if you give notice after living there for only a few days, you must wait until the end of your four week period to move. Refunds for continuing homestay months will be given on a monthly basis and there is a CDN$60 administrative fee charged per month for processing the refund.

What is the difference between living in a homestay and an apartment? (According to our students)
  • In a homestay we have chance to talk with the family. We can join their family activities and ask their opinions about news and culture. They prepared all meals. We don't need to worry about how to buy cheaper and healthy food. They care about your feelings - Min-Chi
  • I think in an apartment we have more freedom than a homestay but in a homestay you don't need to cook, wash the dishes and another things very boring - Roberto
  • You can improve your English better than in an apartment and you have more facilities. You can meet Canadians and for sure live in a family - Georgina
  • Homestay: we experience Canadian life. Apartment: we can do anything we want - Keiko H.
  • In a homestay we have lots of rules and we should keep it but you don't need to prepare your meal.Keiko M.
