English Classes in Canada
|
What will I do on my first day of school?
On the first day you will do a placement test to determine your English level. We will then give you some information about the school: your classes, rules, activities, etc. In the afternoon, a teacher will take you on a short walking tour of downtown to help you get acquainted with your new surroundings.
|
What will my classes be like?
Your classes will focus on communication. The objective of our programs it to get you to use English so that you can speak naturally and fluently. The teacher will focus on specific points and have you practice them through communication. The teacher will also give you homework each day to help you review the day's lesson.
|
What if I find my class to easy or too difficult? Can I move to another level?
This would depend on the situation and would be decided on a case-by-case basis. We want to make sure that you are comfortable in your class. The Program Coordinator will always be there to offer advice and to ensure that you are in the proper class.
|
Do I need to buy textbooks or materials?
You can rent textbooks for your classes at the school. The rental fee is $10 per book, and each book is used for two months. You will need to pay a deposit of $50 for each book that you rent. Your deposit (minus the rental fee) will be returned to you when you give the book back. If you prefer, you may also buy your textbooks.
|
How many levels does the school have?
The curricula is structured in eight levels (from beginner to advanced). Each level takes 2 months.
|
Do I get a certificate once I finish my program?
You will receive a Certificate of Completion upon graduating from your program. Your certificate will state the name of the program you studied in and the length of time you studied for.
|
When do the classes start?
Winfield is committed to helping its students and making their lives easier. We have developed a very flexible schedule in which ESL students can start their classes any Monday.

If I want to go traveling for one or two weeks, can I postpone my class dates?
Yes, but the school has a few rules that students have to consider:
Students may only take one vacation during their program of study.
All vacation requests must be in writing, using the Vacation Request Form.
Vacation must be at least one month long, and no longer than two months, unless otherwise noted.
Students most notify school at least three weeks in advance, otherwise there will be a $75 charge.
Students cannot receive a refund if their class is full/unavailable when they return. They may continue their studies when a space becomes available in the appropiate class.
